In My Home This Week: Meal Plans and 2015

Wellllll...It's all done for another year isn't it?  I hate to see it go but look forward to next year, I do truly. And looking forward doesn't take long does it?  Hard to believe that by the end of this week it will be 2015! I've told John we must go get meats this next week...then I sat down and planned out meals and really we might wait another week.  My reason for going on now?  It's just easier if it doesn't interfere with grocery week.  I've tried that many times and it never does go as planned.  So I'll do a separate trip this week.  We've set aside the bulk of the money we'll spend for this and any overage will be made up from other sub accounts that are well plenished at the moment.

Christmas was nice but as I've said, I'm looking ahead to 2015.  I've already jotted down my notes about Hanukkah and Christmas and what should be done differently,  what worked really well and should be repeated.  It's a great help to go back in October or November and read my notes while I'm planning ahead.

Tonight I sat down and jotted out a short menu plan.  It's not fancy and I will have to make a small grocery trip with an expense of perhaps $20, but that is all.  And I won't let myself be too tempted since I know we are going down to purchase meats in bulk.

Breakfasts:
Cinnamon Rolls (leftovers), Breakfast meats (leftovers)
Fried Eggs and Toast (X2)
Butterscotch Oatmeal, Peanut Butter Toast
Breakfast Sandwich, Juice
Coffeecake, Sausage Balls
Chicken Biscuits

Suppers:
Egg Salad Sandwiches with lettuce
Corned Beef and Swiss Sandwiches
Pimento Cheese Sandwiches
On my own X2  could be yogurt or cheese and crackers
Reubens
Chicken Salad

Dinners:
Beef Pot Pie, Green Salad, Baked Apples
Leftovers from the Christmas roast.

Spaghetti with meat sauce, Salad, Garlic bread

15 Bean Soup, Cornbread

Job's This Week
Plan a month of menus
Plan goals for 2015
Plan Blog work for 2015
Plan 2015 Budget and First Quarter Budget
Plan Shopping for 2015...
Planning, Planning, Planning!

That's what I really mean to do for the whole week: make my plans for 2015.  I've been thinking it over and there are many things I want to make sure to touch on this year, things I want to learn, projects.  I need this time to get my head together.

I love planning. I've been working over our 2015 budget. With gas prices down, and they say they'll be staying down for the next two years at least, it makes for a lower gas budget. And having garden produce still in abundance makes for a lower grocery budget. My shelves and freezer are still bulging. So, I made this year's budget tight on purpose. I'm going to enjoy the challenge.

The thing is, we really don't need anything. I stay home 99% of the time so that means the car also stays home 99% of the time. We have savings built in. So, this year we're going to use the extra to take a nice vacation. I just told a friend that I'll gladly pinch pennies every day so we can enjoy a fun dream vacation. Our son and his wife are going to join us so that will make it twice as fun!

I've been planning the January menu today but also making a master list of menu ideas so I don't get stuck in a rut.

You said it right ... planning, planning, planning! Fun! Pam

Planning sounds like the theme for many this week. I will be planning a monthly menu, a new budget, and a master list of projects we would like to accomplish. Besides that all the Christmas decor will be put away and I will be sure to spend some time with Megan playing with her new toys.

Wishing you a blessed New Year with plenty of sweet memories!

I like that idea of jotting down what went well for christmas and Hanukkah. It's hard to remember last year..goes by fast! Some of my desserts did not go as well as planned so that would help me to jot that down.

Keep learning that's what keeps us young and frugal!
