This Week In My Home: Making My Lists

I really felt, when I started this post, that I'd missed every single thing on menu and job lists.  Yet, I found, when I reviewed last week's post that I had done far better than I supposed.  I am feeling completely recovered and more than ready to tackle things.  Good thing.  February is shortly to be over.  I'd hoped to accomplish more.  I am already working on my March list of tasks to accomplish.  I'll have to hustle a bit to make it through the living/dining areas between now and March 1.

I've had loads of ideas for meals.  I think it's all the cold weather we've been having and the knowledge that it is on it's way out.  Soon I'll be looking for warm weather meals and there are so many of my favorite slow cooking meals to enjoy first.  If some of these look like repeats they aren't. They are meals I never got round to making.

Corned Beef, Cabbage, Mashed Potatoes, Corn Muffins
John requested this meal to day while we were at church.  I promised him I'd make it for him this week.

Salisbury Steaks, Noodles, Harvard Beets, Tossed Salad
I need to use up some sour cream so I'll make a gravy using it.  I think it will be good over the noodles.

Tortellini Soup, Cheesy Garlic Bread
I have all I need to make this soup.  I don't know why I haven't made it.  Remedy that this week.  I will only cook enough Tortellini to go into our first servings.   I know from experience the tortellini does break down rapidly.

Twice Baked Potatoes, Green Peas, Wedge Salad
This is one of  my favorite meatless meals.

Cheeseburger Macaroni, Tossed Salad, Biscuits
We are due more cold weather this week so I've planned meals accordingly.  This is one of my favorite cold weather meals.

Jobs for This Week

Pantry and freezer inventory...It is nearing time for Passover (1st days of April) and I would like to use up as much of the products/foods containing yeast as I can before April 1st.  I figure if I set them in one spot in freezer/pantry then I can easily lay hands on them and plan to use them.

This is also a good time to create a list of needs/wants to stock shelves/freezer. Double duty from one task.

Finish living room deep clean.  I don't think I'll get around to the dining room after all but to complete the living room is possible.  I plan to start the Master Suite next week.  What I don't get done this time around, I will catch when I begin the rounds through the house anew mid-to-late March.  Luxury of small house living.

Finish my first quilt top.  I might not get to filling and backing and quilting but to finish the top will please me.  I hope to start on another unfinished project next month and would like to get this one out of the way.

Create two more lists: Personal shopping and Home shopping.  I have refused to spend any money until I had lists in place to determine what I truly needed.  Now I'm at the stage of being ready to start projects and not being able to proceed because I haven't shopped for needs.    Time to get those lists made!

Hi, I don't mean to sound ignorant but I don't understand why foods with yeast in them are not allowed during certain times of the year and yet you can have them at other times.. Can you enlighten me please??

Sounds like a busy week! I need to get to the freezer too...when it gets warmer. We have it in the garage and I'll need to thaw it out come spring.

I'm like Louise I would like to know the reason behind the yeast too!

Have a good day!

Louise and Vickie,
During Passover, Jews do not eat yeast. It is in observance of the first Passover when the Hebrews fled Egypt and did not have time for their bread to rise. Depending on the person's beliefs, they may not eat corn, peanuts, legumes, or rice. I know some that do eat these and some that don't.

Terri I wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your pictures of the housewives of the past. I think many religions have special observances during Lent or Passover to honor our past or our beliefs. Colleen
