In My Home This Week: Holiday Week

In my home this week, I:

...plan meals

Steak, German Potatoes, Broccoli, Wedge Salads
John was given two extra steaks the other night at the work party.  I'll reheat them but all else was on hand.

On my own

Chili, Cornbread, Orange and Onion Salad

Pot Roast with Vegetables,  Tossed Salad

Chicken Stir Fry, Brown Rice, Oranges

to a friend's home for dinner

Brisket, Corn on the Cob, Coleslaw, Carrot Cake

...plan the week's work and for the New Year:

There are all the usual tasks for a Harvest week: paying bills, banking, groceries.  I think I'm going to 'shop ahead' this week.  I loathe shopping near a major holiday and I have to go to pick up a prescription this weekend anyway (I think).  It would be easiest to just do my shopping while I'm in town early on a Sunday morning than to go back smack in the holiday week...Short lists this week as it is short pay period.

The rest of  the week's work (the 'extras') will all be related to working towards 2016 which is at this writing just 11 days away(!!).  I will be making lists of projects I hope to finish and projects I want to accomplish in 2016, a shopping list of necessities for the home and wardrobe (pretty much every thing).  I want to work on my annual budget and my first quarter budget as well.  So yes, lots of planning tasks.  I hope to share a list of  Retirement Remedies I want to incorporate this coming year, to add to the list I made last year...There are winter outfits to plan (if we ever do get more than a day or two of wintry weather!).  There will be an unfinished projects list and I'll include all I need to finish those on that list.  I'm even going to go so far as to brainstorm a way to finish or start projects I want to accomplish.

...plan for fun:

I have a small amount of Christmas shopping to do this week.  I've decided I'd like to get my great nieces something for a Christmas gift.  I'll be using my allowance for this purchase and it won't be anything big, as they get quite a lot of things.  I do however, have an idea based upon something I know they are always drawn to.  I hope to get this done on Sunday when I'm out shopping anyway.

I was up very early this morning.  It was cold and worthwhile to turn on the propane heater.  I switched on the Christmas tree lights.  It was my first time this year making a conscious decision to sit down and just gaze at the lit tree in a darkened room.  Lovely!  I'd like to make time to do a little more of that this week.

John is working Christmas Eve.  I've been invited to have dinner with his partner's wife and family. I accepted and with any luck at all, John and Andy will be able to join us....fingers crossed.  Such is the life of an EMT's wife.  You learn to suck it up and enjoy what you can get!

Christmas Day will be a quiet dinner at home.  John determined the menu last weekend.  I'll go visit my niece Christmas afternoon for a short while.

There's a planned visit to Katie's new home, too, if all goes well.

...Wish you all  a very Merry Christmas!

I won't make any more posts this week...I'll be pretty busy and I've no doubt that you will be, too.  I look forward to checking in next week with my plans for the New Year!  Have a wonderful week!

May God bless all those police, nurses, emt's that work on these holidays to keep us safe. I for one do not take them for granted. Thanks John and Terri for your sacrifice.Gramma D

If you put you Christmas tree lights on a timer, they will be on every morning when you wake up.

Hope you have a blessed Christmas, Terri. We have snow, I'd gladly share if you want more practice with winter outfits. Smile. I love my tree lights early morning and early to late evening. So pretty. Pam
