I am joining you for frugal boot camp. We will be almost debt free except our house in December of this year. But I know there is much more I can do to make our money work for us and put it toward things that are important to us. I also am very excited that you are going to be blogging more. I check your blog everyday and sometimes just read the postings over again. So you have also inspired me to set some goals this month too. I am usually not a goal person but can see how it will make me more purposeful. Keep writing Terri. God is using that gift to touch many just like me who has been reading you for sometime and has never commented before. Blessings on you and your family.
Jennifer from Ohio.gfoAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6959918163454225829.post-37073402885496890122016-07-04T11:35:33.721-04:002016-07-04T11:35:33.721-04:00Sounds like an interesting book. I love reading stories of the Great Depression, and I think you suggested one of my favorites now, Christmas after all, the Great Depression Diary of Minnie Swift. Her aspic and au gratin stories cracked me up.
Anyway I answered yes to 8,9,10 on the quiz...the others I answered no or did not really apply.Kathyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16710629007170091862noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6959918163454225829.post-23425281050251693322016-07-04T09:49:24.370-04:002016-07-04T09:49:24.370-04:00I enjoyed the section about housing. We are not professional builders, but the house will be good enough. I am not interested in comparing my home to anyone else's. My perfect home would not suit someone else, and the reverse is also true.Dawnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06857505237519700418noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6959918163454225829.post-50731650639203994672016-07-04T08:54:56.957-04:002016-07-04T08:54:56.957-04:00I don't ever remember going out with friends w...I don't ever remember going out with friends who expected us to pay the bill or them to pay ours. The only exception would be our kids and that balances out pretty even. Never had a taXi service. Sometimes pick up friends or they pick me up, evens out and doesn't happen often. Never have saved any gifts or something new, I use it. Definitely go over restaurant bills and have found a lot of mistakes over the years, and yes, if we are under charged we tell them. Christmas gifts are within my budget and hopefully ones that people like. I personally think that if this was written during the depression that she had no idea of how most people lived unless they had a lot of resources. To people like my parents, having new clothes just didn't happen, restaurant meals were unheard of, and they considered themselves lucky to just survive from day to day, and they definitely would have not spent money on magazines. Those old books are interesting reading though. Gramma D. As for the questions...That book looks interesting! As for the questions: Some of those are hilarious! But, I'll bite:
1. I can count the times on my hands when I've taken anybody to any restaurant, other than family. I just have never had the money or time to "do coffee, or do lunch." Instead, we invite friends over--entire families.
2. Here in the part of Oregon where I live, I have never once ridden in a taxi--almost everyone I know has a car, or several cars. The only taxi rides I've taken are on a rare vacation we had from an airport to our condo and back. We sometimes share rides with friends or family if we are all going to the same event.
3. I've never ridden on the train, but did ride mass transit once while on vacation in San Francisco years ago:) I have paid for papers when I wanted them, though.
4. I rarely walk anywhere, except for exercise. I did, however, walk a few blocks with my autistic niece today--she wanted to show me that she could navigate from a Starbucks to the Chinese restaurant we were eating at as a family--so we walked while Rob drove those blocks.
5. I'm the worst at that. I'll wear the old stuff at home, and too much, and "save" the new stuff for church or work only. I could get more balance on that in my life. I value comfort over style.
8. I cleared out so many old clothes when we packed to move, it was insane!!! I wasn't going to make them over, though. More like wanted to lose weight or just didn't like them, but was mad at myself for buying them in the first place, so kept them.
9. Yes.
10. TMI:) You really don't want to know. It's enough to know that I change my underwear daily:)
11. I don't give any gifts out of duty.
13. No. I tear them open.
14. I can say without reservation that I NEVER skip meals for any reason:) I like food way too much. Of course, being diabetic, I can't anyway, but I never did before I was diabetic, either. My mother believed in a schedule of breakfast, 10 o'clock snack, lunch at noon, 3 o'clock snack, dinner at 5:30, bedtime snack. I guess I was raised as a hobbit:) and it stuck with me.

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
