Thank you for mentioning me, and I have another small tip in reference to the cooking skills for frugal living. All of the grocery stores in my area have weekly trips around the store with a nutritionist, they explain how to use different foods, how to cook them and how to save money and eat well. Perhaps others have these as well. I must get to the laundry now, I had guests all week and it has piled up. Lovely to have you to read with my coffee this am. doe853https://www.blogger.com/profile/03417944604275614243noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6959918163454225829.post-59247802662455645192014-03-07T06:33:40.324-05:002014-03-07T06:33:40.324-05:00I so enjoy these Q&A posts. I feel like you came to my house to visit and chat - and brought a bunch of other ladies you know as well! :)

I'm thinking that Sarah is referring to the drought situation in California. The bulk of US almonds are grown there, along with a large amount of other conventional produce. We currently live in Texas and are already (as of the end of February) into the 4th driest year in 100 years for this area. The reservoirs are drying up - some are already "dead" and can't be drained any further - and the aquifers are suffering as well. A town near us actually ran out of water completely a few months back. There are oil rigs out there and their use plus the town's use drained the town well down to silt. Their fire department had only what was stored in their tanker truck. Scary stuff! Then again, in Washington state, about an hour south of where we are about to be living, there is flooding! If only I could magically bring that water here. ;)

Have a wonderful day and weekend. Thank you for "chatting" with us!Meloniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09218572127310877215noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6959918163454225829.post-66527021993236085292014-03-07T00:50:53.878-05:002014-03-07T00:50:53.878-05:00Sorry when I mention drought affecting nuts..and m...Sorry when I mention drought affecting nuts..and many other crops I was talking about California. I live in Southern Calif. As you know California also produces a lot of Americas food crops any more. With hardly any rain again this year the farmers are hurting. I heard one say their apple trees are actually falling sideways and drying. One big nut farmer said he hardly got any nuts at all as he did not have nearly enough rain. I am so glad you have your pecan. I hope it produces enough for at least your family and hopefully again enough to pay the house insurance again! :) All through our homemaking years we have heard of shortages on this crop or this product,..every year. We still survive. Nuts are not essential to life and most other crops we can substitute for another or grow our own. One calamity after another is touted on the nightly news. What does not change is that God is still on His throne. Rejoice and be glad about that! Yes I agree that all of us should think about how we would handle being alone. Plan if we can and hope we don't have to carry out those plans. That is all the more reason to h keep honest lines of communication open about finances and such between us. Both partners should know all the bills and where the check book is and how to balance it etc and what insurance you have. How much is owe on anything and where are those papers stored? I heard Dr. Dobson say that on their anniversary they go to the bank and he reviews all the important papers with his wife and they discuss any changes and such yearly at that time. He wants to make sure his wife feels confident about things. I have had wives tell me they don't know what medicines their husband takes or why!!! We keep a list of our meds and vitamins and any important health information on ourselves each other in our wallets. Our doctor provides such cards to fill out. It is a comfort to have it 'in case'. I know when I am upset I might forget something the paramedic might need to know. Also do your kids have such a list? Do they know where to get our doctors or hospitals name and other information about anything they might need in case you are unable to talk to them? I had to laugh at your comment on the 'new' thing to add to mashed potatoes is the potato water!! :) When I first went to homemaking they said to Not use it cause it would make your potatoes stiff and more starchy. !!!...now they are saying to use it! Like everything things flip flop!! LOL I use water too! I know that if you only depend on man for your answers you are in trouble. Go to the one who created him. No one but Him has all the answers. :-) I guess if we taste our smashed potatoes and they taste and feel right to us they are right! No matter how we make em!!! :)

As always, I was so happy to see a post to read from you! Yes here too there are few women friends that are home during the day. I came to this new to me state just before marrying and back in my home state I had lived all my life. Street after street had women home and as I saw it happy. I was in and out of their homes all the time. Came here, got married and set up housekeeping to find the streets deserted at 9 in the morning. :( I had thought I could have a life like my mother and her friends of other women doing like home chores at the time I was. I set up housekeeping just as the feminists were saying to be a homemaker was a drudge and you Should be out working. Well I did work but at home!! LOL Still love being home. Worked only a few years after marrying and the kids were almost out of the house. I am grateful that is all I had to work. Many women do not have a choice. It is nice to hear from all the women here and on other such blogs. Some though are my very favorites, like yours. Sarah
SarahAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
