Last week I stayed busy all week long. It's looking like this week ahead will be the same...The weekend was especially hectic, so there is no vintage kitchen narrative this week. If I'd taken time to do that, too, fitting it in around all else, I probably wouldn't post this until late Monday evening.
Work:
Work on landscaping at the house in town. I may go get mulch later in the week but first, there's a lot of trimming, cutting and leveling to be done. I'll lay down what weed mat I have. Katie will need to power wash the border stones to be put back in place.
Zone Three is Beds and Baths. This week I want to get some organization decluttering done in these areas...and by the way, nary a bit of decluttering did I get to last week in the Main living areas. Not one bit.
Anyway, decluttering. The towel storage and our cabinet with toiletries and medicines HUGE mess. I also need to do something to better store our bed linens. I have a trunk in the guest bedroom closet that I've used to store odds and ends that likely can be done away with. It will fit under my bed and I think it will be the perfect thing to hold my sheets and extra mattress pad. I also need to go through my house clothes drawer and put it to rights once more. It's a tumbled mess.
If I have any spare time at all this week, I need to finish the pillows for the guest bed and the curtains as well.
I'd love to have the three children over from across the field. Can I find a half day to devote to that?
The usual daily housework, meals and yard work.
And just maybe I'll get time to go buy mulch and look for a fern and plants? I need a haircut so it would be a good time to look as well as to drop off donations at Goodwill.
Kitchen:
Until I have room in one of the freezers, I'll postpone making the English muffins. After our grocery shopping the freezers were packed tight. I also had bagged up ice over the week to have extra on hand for Josh's birthday party and glad I did because that came in handy.
Gathered Fragments:
Cantaloupe
Zucchini
Teriyaki Chicken
Grapes
1/3 of a large tomato
Here's how this week is looking for menus:
Breakfasts: Now that it's warmer and we're more prone to be working in the mornings I'm going to try to make smaller breakfasts but have them pack a punch with protein and carbs. I'm thinking toast and eggs, or Muffins with cheese cubes. I won't by any means be cutting John off from this desired 'big' breakfasts but it's fact that it's harder to do heavy work in the heat of the morning and have eaten a heavy breakfast as well.
Lunches: John's mentioned egg salad. I will try to make some up this week for sandwich filling. We'll have salads this week, too. We generally have leftovers, too. I have tortillas and will take the leftover rice, along with some refried beans and make up burritos which are always nice to freeze and then pop into the microwave to heat.
Dinners: Leftover Pizza slices
Gramma's Fried Chicken, Squash Casserole, Sliced Tomato, Macaroni Salad
Tater Tot Casserole, Fruit Salad
Spaghetti with Meat Sauce, Green Salad
Leftover Chicken Teriyaki, Rice, Stir Fry Veggies
Beef Stroganoff, Noodles, Salad with Pickled Beets, onions and hard boiled eggs
??? No clue. There's bound to be more leftovers. I've asked for a dinner out so we'll see if that happens.
Personal:
Continue spending a little time in the yard each day.
Delete the games off my computer and put out a stack of vintage magazines and books to read instead. Ditto for deleting a lot of blogs off the bookmarks list on the computer. In other words, less computer time spent just trolling around. I need the break physically and mentally.
Make Cards. I keep saying I will and I really want to do so but I never make it back to that craft table to get started.

Thank you all for the anniversary wishes!
Years ago our next door neighbor man and I would often be out early working in our yards. He would holler over and ask what I had for breakfast and cereal was almost always my answer. He would always shout back that you have to eat a big steak for breakfast before doing yard work. All I could think was Gag!
We have some things we would like to do this week at the lake before we go home but it will likely depend on the weather. We had a lot of rain last week so hopefully we will see more sunshine this week.
Oh, and about your tomato plant. Each of ours gets about a half cup of coffee grounds every week and about a cup of crushed egg shells every two weeks or so and nothing else all summer except water every day. I did amend the soil with a cup of mushroom compost in each big pot before planting this year. They grow like weeds with only that.
Lana, I think I missed saying Happy Anniversary to you and your husband. I do apologize! I thought it but it's much nicer to say it than to just think it.
I'll keep those things in mind. I asked the guy who gave us the plant and apparently John was meant to pot it in something bigger...So I shall do so and will do as you suggest when it's a wee bit bigger.
I start adding coffee grounds and egg shells to my tomato pots six to eight weeks before I plant them. Our pots are 3 to 5 gallon size. Our plants were full of blooma when we left so I am hoping to see baby tomatoes when we get home.
Good morning
I hope you get your weeks plan done. I’ve got a few hot spots in my house that need worked over but not sure when they will get done.
I am so impressed that you prepare meals 3 times a day. I barely have enough energy to fix supper every night. My husband eats supper leftovers for lunch the next day (plenty left since it is just the two of us most times). and we always eat refirgerator oats for breakfast. Every day. You are superwoman!
I cook breakfast and dinner most days and we reheat leftovers for most lunches. Now and then we don't have anything extra and I'll cook but it's generally easy i.e. we have chicken nuggets and frozen french fries.
Rhonda, you'll fit them in a little here and a wee bit there as the week goes on. Remember keeping a new grandchild is a lot like starting a new job. It all takes getting used to all over again, even if you have done it eight times before!
