The Homemaker Plans Her Week: September Joy

For the past two days, I've heard the song "September in the Rain" wafting through my brain.  It happens every year that either that or "Autumn Leaves" starts humming through my mind.

I've already said I'm happy that September is here.  And blessed wonder of wonders we're slated for some 'cooler' weather here from mid-week.  It will be in the low 80's!  It's got me thinking fall menus already.

We'll have Caleb at least one night this week...I'm looking forward to seeing my grandson!

Home:

I want to return to my home keeping routines and zone work this month.  It makes deep cleaning a much lighter task.  I'm satisfied that I got 'caught up' this past month with the things I really wanted to do.  I can start fresh and know I'm not behind.

Keep Caleb.

Maybe see Mama.

Plan something for our Labor day.  I'm thinking we might cook out but we'll see.  I have a few Country Style Ribs in the freezer, and Corn on the Cob.  That would be good food for the last grilling holiday we'll have this year.

Plant my fall garden.

Gather seeds.

Work on September's budget sheet.  Hopefully whatever I do this month will carry us through the end of the year since October begins the final quarter of the year.

Make out a list for September grocery shopping.  I need to restock a few items, and I want to watch for sales on them: toilet paper, aluminum foil, shampoo, green beans, chicken...It's a varied list.  I also want to recheck my cold/flu medicine supplies and see which of those I haven't gotten yet.  I have actually worked on that list over the past two months, and I think I need only one item.

Clear out the toy box.  That's my last bit of decluttering work I wanted to get done in August and didn't.

Go to the shed and get the autumn wreaths out and determine if I can use them another season.

While I'm out there, perhaps I could gather a few things for decorating indoors and determine which items will go into a donation bin.

Kitchen:

Make oatmeal cookies.  Get some to Katie asap.

Make a new list of expired items and go through the prepared foods bin in the freezer to determine what I need to use.

Do a Pantry and Freezer inventory.  This should be far easier than the last quarter's inventory because the pantry and freezer are far better organized than they were.

Personal/Leisure:

Create a Self-Care Journal.

Create a few seasonal transition outfits.  I was actually reading a list from a woman online and her list of 'don'ts' was so vast I gave up...But she did have some good ideas for us warmer climate ladies who want to transition to fall: LIGHT layers, more autumnal colors and fewer summer pastels, closed toe shoes, etc.  Some of her don'ts did make sense: Put away linen items and sundresses, etc. I thought I'd try to see what I have that I might use to impart a more seasonally appropriate look, while remaining relatively cool during the very warm days. Then I'll put together a couple of 'wishful thinking' outfits that are for truly cool days, but no more than two.  It's truly unlikely we'll have true cool weather for at least a month.

Continue the trend to READ every day, work on genealogy or coloring or crafting, etc. and limiting computer time.

Get John out of the house for a date day.  Not an errand day, a real date.

The self-care journal sounds interesting! And of course, I'm always game to read every day. :) It's the thing I do best and most consistently. Now if I could just translate that to keeping my house clean and my body trim and healthy. LOL

I am taking the day off from work on Friday this week. It'll be nice to only work a 3-day week! I am having breakfast with a friend that morning, then a museum visit plus some putzy errands around town then a follow-up with my nutritionist where I will likely find that while I maintained weight loss, I unfortunately also lost more and then gained that extra loss right back. I'm discouraged about that. Then a haircut to round out the day.
