In My Home This Week: Start With a Bang!

In my home this week:  I have no room photo to share this week because I am behind.   It is late and we've had two very full days.

Yesterday began slow and relaxed.  I received my new book for the current Bible Study at church and found the introduction video and a zoom class held by another church a year ago on the first chapter.  My morning was spent sipping coffee and enjoying the start of the new study.  I am currently working on Finding I Am by Lisa TerKuesrt.  (This link is an Amazon Affiliate link.  It will open in a new tab.  I receive a small commission from Amazon on qualifying orders that is in no way reflected in cost to you. You can do any shopping through this link.  You do not just have to buy this item to help me make a small amount of money.)

And then Katie arrived.  She'd dropped by last night with her purchases for the party but had children, gifts and chips to unload.  I supplied paper goods and serving dishes.  The children came over from across the field...Well two arrived but Isaac was nowhere to be seen.  Bess and Sam found him on the pathway when they came over to say they had to run an errand.  He'd found some leaves or something interesting and forgot he was headed to my house.

We slipped the children snacks as we waited for everyone to arrive. Katie couldn't believe she hadn't forgotten something.  We double checked and then checked a third time, but we had all that we could require.

The guests finally were all assembled.   The party proceeded to be what all children's birthday parties ought to be: loud, fun, wails, hide and seek, and cheers.   Sam remarked at one point how nice it was to have so many children of an age to really enjoy a party.   There was one older girl and then 6 children ranging from 7-1.

Dear Caleb, such a creature of habit, was worn slap out by the time we got to the cupcake part of the day and wailed his way through a clothing change afterwards.  Eventually all the children left...

Sam stayed behind and talked and talked and talked.  It was awfully good to have him sit and just chat with us about various things.  He stayed so long that we finally had to just start getting ready for our evening while he was still here talking.  He left only moments before we ourselves walked out of the door.

I won't share about our evening nor about today here just now.  I've run on quite long enough.

Work:

Keep Millie and Caleb both one morning.   I was pleased (NOT!) to hear that she is currently in the same climbing on things she's no business to stage as Caleb.  That day shall be an all hands on deck watching toddlers day.

Take Caleb to a doctor's appointment.  I'm afraid he'll have to have a shot at this visit.  I had to take him to the last one where he needed a shot and it is my least favorite thing to do in the world.

Grocery shop.

Try hard to get four Christmas presents attended to. (I typed that last night...I actually scored a present this morning. ) I'm focusing on four of the grandchildren, now...I have ideas, but we'll see if (a) I can afford them and (b) if they're of any interest to any of them if they are affordable.

Start food prep for Thanksgiving dinner. (I got my turkey today!  I won't be baking it ahead but just having it is a great bonus...and yes, I saw just loads of turkeys today in Kroger and in Aldi.)

Mop the hard surface floors in the house.

Institute a Tuesday routine.  This will include: watering plants and focusing on one extra task.  I might have to do a Tuesday routine on Wednesday this week since I'll have two children on Tuesday but I still plan to do a room to room task.  Last week I did dusting all over the house.  This week I'll focus on cleaning door knobs and switch plates in each room.

Kitchen:

I don't have any planned kitchen tasks this week beyond making bread and preparing meals.  So this week I'll just stick to meal plans.Breakfasts: Baked Oatmeal, Breakfast casserole, Eggs and Toast, Smoothies and Toast, Pancakes and Bacon

Lunches:  This usually revolves around what leftovers we have on hand.  Right now we've got fried chicken, mac and cheese, and leftover pizza.  I'll probably make some tuna salad one day.  I'll figure out the fifth day when I come to it.

Suppers:

out to dinner with friends

Burgers, fries and shakes (takeout)

Pot Roast with Vegetables, Slaw

Roast Beef Hash, Pickled Beets, Salad

Bbq'd  Chicken, Rice, Green Beans, Corn Muffins or Rolls

John out/on my own

Burrito Bowls

Personal/Leisure:

I didn't read a thing all last week.  I haven't finished the Goudge Book Towers in the Mist, nor The Baker's Daughterby DE Stevenson.  I just couldn't seem to carry through in being interested in either. Another day and time I'll pick up either one and be so engrossed I'll resent having to put them down and attend to my daily business.   I'll scan my bookshelves and try something else.

Start work on a new Roots and Rabbit Trails blog post.

Fresh pedicure.

John will be out at Men's Meeting on Thursday.  I'm going to do as I did last time and have some 'me' time.  I think I'll watch one of the movies I have on hand already.   It's very pleasant to sit here and watch one of my chick flicks.   I'll try to make myself something special for supper, but not anything that requires a lot of effort.   I'm thinking a frozen meal (from the Dollar store or the discount grocer perhaps).

I love that you had a good old fashioned birthday party!

We got our turkey with a $15 rebate from iBotta so it cost us 57 cents! And it even went into the freezer that seemed to be too full. We have gotten $60 back from iBotta in the last two weeks. Thankful and blessed! We will be making an Aldi run on Tuesday and I plan to scope out the ham situation.

Terri, Go into the Walmart in store part of the app and the freebies will come up first in the list. You will have to have a referral to get the free turkey but many of the other items are still there. Some have expired though. I check the app every few days, in particular Walmart because they are where the most freebies are. We do not make a special trip for deals other than the turkey. There are frequently rebates that match the Publix ad but always check to see if they are still there before shopping.

The climbing for a toddler is a physical need. The little guy I watch on Wednesday and Friday afternoons thinks it's fun to climb the swing set slide and act like he's going to jump off the top. He laughs at my alarm and consternation. He's the youngest of 5 farm kids, the third boy, so he's no stranger to danger. Well, what I consider danger. Lol.

We're having Thanksgiving on Saturday evening since the kids will be gone three weekends in a row, including Thanksgiving. Greg got a turkey at Walmart a week ago, then got a certificate from his work for a turkey at a different store. There seem to be plenty of turkeys available around here.

What a great birthday party for Caleb!

Terri, I am behind on posting as the week is nearly out, but I wanted to drop by to say hello! I hope you have Caleb’s doctor visit and shot behind you. I agree that is a hard thing to do.

I am having a lazy morning drinking coffee as I watch the leaves fall and a steady rain out my window. So glad I cut all my perennials down last weekend. I was late in doing so and knew I must seize the warmer day. I am still aching from it though! I have a few things left on my winter prep list. We must call and get winter tire appts. It is supposed to snow soon and everyone tries to make winter tire appts at the first snow. It makes our cars behave much better in the snow and ice.

Well I must get an order in and then off to do a few things. Cooking in the kitchen today I think I may spoil myself and read this afternoon, and maybe have a salt bath tonight. Have a lovely day!

Hello friend, I like your posts when you “run on”
Both my parents have had some health issues and they are moving from a roomy 2 bedroom independent living apartment to a much smaller 1 bedroom assisted living apartment. They have so much stuff to clean, downsize, make decisions about and frankly it’s almost overwhelming.

Tammy, that among other things was on the questionnaire I had to fill out for Caleb. I will say I answered yes to nearly all except the ones that obviously suggested autism. He's a very busy little boy and right he ought to be on all scores.

Rhonda, I remember well when your parents moved into the apartment and the downsizing from their home was a huge undertaking. I can say for sure that Mama has accumulated a lot despite moving twice in the past three or four years and I can only imagine how overwhelming cleaning out her things would be. I shall be praying for you and thinking of you!

Karen, good news, no shot....Your porch sitting sounds so lovely! I took time after my nap this afternoon to go sit on the porch but got cold and had to come back in.
