In My Home This Week: Fresh Winds

In my home this week:

We will be getting new flooring Monday.  I mopped the kitchen Friday and ran the vacuum over the carpet one more time, then again.  Why?  Not sentimentality but just wanting to continue to be a good steward of what has been a blessing.  Yes it is worn a bit and dinged up, too but there are no places worn through to the sub flooring as I had in one home.  There are no hard beaten paths that look like they were glued in place as there were in another house.  And come Monday and Tuesday, my house will take on a fresh new appearance.

Currently the house literally echoes about us. It certainly feels like a fresh slate.  I should have emptied out rooms long before now and started over, one piece at a time!  Bess and I talked over the living room on Thursday evening and I made three decisions lickity split.  The little ottoman that rocks is out of here.  Josh spent the whole evening pushing it over and then back up again.  I realled that Daniel was forever flipping the little swivel rocker that is it's mate up in the air and very nearly crashed it upon Hailey one morning.  I think the chair will move to the bedroom but I'll have to find a replacement chair. I simply can't have the nerves jumping every time grandchildren play with those two pieces.

I am typing this Friday evening.  A very quiet Friday evening all on my own.  John is at work.  Bess and Josh traveled on to visit her mom this weekend.  There is soft music playing in the background.  I worked hard all day long.  I'm tired and yet very relaxed and peaceful.  I had a lovely solitary Sabbath evening.  My brain keeps spinning and spinning but it's time to be done with work.  So this week, it's short and simple.  There's a fresh wind blowing...

...I plan work:

I don't know just what I'll spend my time doing on Monday and Tuesday.  Certainly moving a few last pieces of furniture.  I thought I'd try to work ahead on the Proverbial Woman posts, so this weekend, I'll look up words and make a few notes. I still enjoy pen and paper writing so no hardship to be without internet for a day or two.

Harvest Week.  I've already worked ahead on the bill box.  I will need to do errands and get groceries.  I'd really wanted to go to meat market on Tuesday but John is working so I'll need to be here.

Slowly put things in place.

And that's a gracious plenty for a big week like this one!

...I plan meals:

I am very low on meats and I know the stove will be out at least one day this week, so it's going to take a bit of thinking this  week.  I sort of loosely know about what I have.

Shredded BBQ  Chicken on buns,  with coleslaw, Pickles, Apples

Meatloaf, Corn on the Cob,  Green Salad with Apple Wedges and Walnuts, Corn Muffins

Creamy Tomato and Rice Soup, Tuna Salad Sandwiches, Carrot and Celery Sticks

Beef Stew, Pineapple salad, Gingerbread

on my  own

Grocery deli day

Turkey Tenderloin with Stove Top Stuffing, Green Beans, Baked Sweet Potato

...I plan my leisure:

I'm pretty sure leisure this week will be sewing, reading and napping from all the hard work I'll be doing!

As I sit here in my comfortable home it is hard to imagine all those who have no home to go home to or flooding and destruction from the hurricane. Our youngest son and his wife just want to go home and see where they stand but cannot go yet because of flooding and impassible roads at the coast of SC. We are really having to encourage them to stay put here until the governor gives the all clear for their county. What we can do though is pray for all those who are in crawling traffic returning to reopened areas and courage for those who must rebuild.
