The Homemaker Plans Her Week: Cool Spell?

In my home this week, we're going to take advantage of this 'cool spell' over the weekend and enjoy ourselves.  Truth, it is July and we're smack in the 90's but for two days we're supposed to experience 90F and not 98F...So yeah, a 'cool spell'.

I'm not kidding myself in the least.  It's hot.  It's supposed to be hot.  It's going to stay hot.  It's July and then it will be August and it's going to be just as hot.  I'm not complaining.  I'm just sayin'.

Work:

Zone 4 porches and patio, outside entrances.  There's a lot of work that could be done and most of it involves water.  Cleaning railings, cleaning floors.  Do I even want to tackle this?  Not really.  But I do know that the porch floors will absolutely need to be painted this fall and if not then, at least come spring.  The cleaner I get the porches, the sooner I can slap paint on them.

As for the patio, I need to put my two planters out there but there's no room at the moment.  I thought I'd shift a few of my flowerpots around and place them in other flower beds to sort of spread the prettiness around.  I've neglected everything for the sake of the patio this year.  The thing is with it so hot, do I really want to spread the pots out so that I have to walk farther with a heavy water hose in order to keep them all going?  Oh, the decisions we must make and live with!

I'm not going to kid you.  A lot of life these days is putting out little fires whenever I notice one is starting.  Sticky floors?  Mop.  Dirty fingerprints on the wall, wash 'em down.  Crumbs on the counter, wipe 'em off.  That sort of thing can keep you plenty busy and does.  And so it will continue even if I don't make it outdoors to attend to porches...

Work on my Frugal Bootcamp.

Kitchen:

Cooling sweet treats are wanted.  I never did get around to making anything last week at all.  This week I'll try to do two or three items, stick something in the freezer for future weeks and go from there. I still think Boston Cream Pie sounds lovely, thought I'd do an Orange Cream Pie and freeze it.

I really ought to make Bagels. I could at least bake them while the Boston Cream Pie base is in the oven.  Or scrap that idea entirely and just buy everything?  It's so tempting with this heat...

I'll compromise and say that if I can't do these things while the temperature is lower, then I'll just scrap my ideas and buy things.  Done.

Personal/Leisure:

Read.  Color.

Set up outfits for the hot week ahead.

I feel so boring lately.  And bored.  But that's just the time of year it is.  In other areas, when snow falls heavily people hunker down indoors and do as little as possible.  In the South, when it gets this hot, we hunker down and do as little as possible until the heat passes.

Dearest Lana, I'm so sorry to hear of your Moms passing. It will be 2 years in November since my Mom went to her heavenly reward. She was my best friend. I don't wish her back in the condition she was in, because she's totally healthy now. The sadness you will feel is for you because she's been there all your life. Please know I'm praying for peace for you. 🙏🙏 Donnell

Dear Lana, prayers for your family as you grieve for your mother.

Terry, hot weather calls for ice cold watermelon and cantaloupe! Going to be hot again today but we have some outside work that needs to be done.
