Last Grocery Shop for February

John and I went to Sam's Club today.  I will confess I spent a little more than I'd planned but there was nothing frivolous about the shopping.  I looked for a whole lot more that I never found at all.  We have yet to make it through the whole store.  We always end up too tired!

We bought plenty and I priced a good many things.  I find that most of the items I wanted to price, we are already getting the best buy on and that's heartening to see.  I did pass on a few things that I'd recently priced in sales sheets.  I bypassed a few things that I knew I'd find cheaper elsewhere if I watch for the next sales cycle.  However, I am fully done for the month.  I will not be spending any more for February.  I am well and truly done.

Meats: 5 pounds of 88/12 ground beef for $4.29 a pound which was 30 cents less a pound than the 10-pound chub.

Sirloin steak pieces were marked down to $27.19 for one package and $23.00 for the other.  There were 6 nice thick slices in each package.   3 Ribeye Steaks were $14.98 a pound and cost over $54...Wow.  John caught the marked down on these sirloin steaks.  We'll get six steak dinners off these.

1 package of boneless skinless chicken breasts for $2.48/pound.  There are 8 large breasts in that package.  One is ample to serve the two of us and some could be stretched to four servings if needed.

I bought a rack of ribs.  There are always two racks in each package.  I cut each into what would serve the two of us about 3 ribs each, so half of each rack works nicely as a meal for us.

I also bought a 2-pound roll of ground sausage ($6.98), 1 package of 2 pounds of bacon, 3 pounds of sausage slices, and a 2-pound package of smoked sausage links (different than the Hillshire Farms stuff).

Convenience foods: I bought 2 pounds of frozen cooked shrimp ($13.92), 3 pounds of chicken bites ($13.48), and a package of egg rolls ($9.88) and a package of 4 14-ounce Polska Kielbasa sausages (9.48).

We will get many meals off these items, and I am assured that on a day when it's all hit the fan and I'm beyond done, we will have something I can make a meal of rather quickly.  It will save us grabbing take-out on our way home.

I picked up a package of sliced turkey ($7.48) and another of honey ham ($6.98) for sandwiches.  These are 2-pound packages, and I divide them into smaller packets that are just enough for 3 sandwiches.  I can thaw the smaller packets quickly in cold water.

And 1 Rotisserie chicken ($4.98).

Produce:  2 pounds of strawberries ($6.96.  They are finally in season for us, coming out of Florida), a multi-pack of baby romaine hearts, 3 pounds of grapes, 8 pounds of seedless oranges ($8.33), and a package of guacamole cups.  I am enjoying eating a cup of guac with celery sticks as a low-cal snack.  Lots of fiber and healthy fat as well as flavor in that.

Breads:  2 loaves of sandwich bread, croissants, bagels, low-carb tortillas.

Dairy:  Kraft sliced cheese (9.36) for 72 slices, a cheese tray that had the perfect number of Swiss, gouda and pepper jack slices ($8.98) which proved a far better buy for our needs than the 2-pound packages of each would have been (averaging $7 for each sort).

Dry Goods:  25 pounds flour ($9.98), 4 jars diced pimentos, 8 cans diced tomatoes, 1 container Parmesan cheese (the dry shaky stuff...), a big tub of Pork Rinds (John's favorite low carb snack item), 2 jugs Apple Juice, a huge tub of Double Bubble Gum to help fill Easter Eggs at church, and a box of black trash bags, contractor grade.

My total was $386 for all of this.  With the $150 I bought while out with Katie, and the roughly $60 I ordered from Amazon this month, I have spent my entire budget.  We are well stocked, and I am pleased with where my money went this month.
