Hello loves.
We had a rather nice, if unplanned sort of weekend. Friday night I'd announced my intentions to spend all day Saturday working in the current genealogy notebook. John laughed because I made plans
Turns out John was right. I had a text from Sam of some troubles in his household and he asked if the kids could come here. I said "Sure, I'll send them home after lunch." But when lunch arrived, they asked if they could have quiet time here with us and then it was snack time.
Isaac had fallen off his bike earlier in the morning and landed in the hardest spot in the dirt driveway. I saw the bike down, heard him whimpering but not really crying and told John I thought he'd fallen. As the whimpering was getting nearer and nearer to the house, I felt it safe to assume his limbs were fine. His limbs were, but his poor nose was bloody and scratched all over. "I got sand in my nose," he said, and I told him I well imagined he had. His nose didn't bleed much, and he was fine. He lay down on the bed in the guest room for quiet time and he was fine. But when he got up, his nose started bleeding again and just wouldn't stop. He was forming clots but each time a clot would pass then he'd have a fresh spat of blood. I ended up calling Sam to come pick him up as there was no way the child could walk home and push his bike, etc.
Of course, Sam has vast experience with nose bleeds, and he dealt with it admirably. I'd helped Isaac pinch the bridge of his nose, hold the toweling to his nose and change out towels as needed and kept ice on the back of his neck, but it didn't really work. Sam made a packing for the nose and that was that.
That was Saturday.
Sunday, we hung about church talking to various folks and then came home. I reheated food for lunch and after lunch I finally tackled my genealogy and had a rather nice time of it.
This morning, it rained, which was expected. I made chicken and dumplings for our lunch and the Greek yogurt and flour 'dough' worked perfectly for the biscuity dumplings. I was pretty pleased over that. It hit the spot too because the rain brought in cooler weather, as expected.
I swapped all my spring/summer and winter stuff about so that now my warmer weather things are hanging in the closet, and the heavy sweaters and wraps are all in the drawer. I do not need more clothing! I have collected quite a lot over the past few months for the warmer weather days ahead.
John and I have had a lot of deep conversations since Friday. So, while I was swapping clothing about, John was right there sitting in the room and discussing deeper things. I confessed to him that I simply don't think that much about those things, except on rare occasions. Usually after I listen to him or hear a moving testimony and occasionally when I find a passage of scripture especially powerful.
My husband thinks a lot about his spiritual wellbeing and whether or not he is the man of God he ought to be. I wish I could say I was just as concerned over my own spiritual health, but the truth is I only occasionally think of it. Mostly I am too busy planning what I'm going to do next in the house or yard or about what I want to study more deeply which is seldom anything to do with spiritual matters. I think it is very much a case of a Martha mindset on my part.
He did make me laugh today though as he talked of 'many mansions'. "I don't want a mansion all to myself because in my earthly mind and being, I know full well I'm going to end up at your place. For one thing I'll be lonely. You'll have a nicer place than mine, and there will be better stuff in the fridge, and I will constantly feel my own mansion is lacking..."
Funny man. For all that he thinks and speaks intelligently on deeper things, that was such an endearing sort of speech that I had to kiss him. It is a tribute to my Martha-ways, I think.
Supper tonight: Macaroni and Cheese with Roasted Mixed Vegetables. I think I'm going to have a couple of squares of dark chocolate as a treat tonight.
P. S. The title refers to the fact that the inside of my fridge is looking mighty empty. A sure sign that it is time to go to the grocery store and stock up again on produce and fruit.

What a funny and loving observation John made about the mansions. I love that!
