To Do List for the Second Week of October

1.  Zone 2 The Kitchen.  In my home this zone comprises the back entry and the laundry area as well.  I'm adding the back porch since it does come to my backdoor and serves as the main entry to my home for most everyone.  If I do, that will leave me a whole week for outdoor stuff at the end of the month. Of course, the hope is that by then it will be cooler and more comfortable for outdoor work.

My focus areas in the kitchen: cleaning small appliances (coffee maker, mixer, bread machine, toaster oven, microwave, slow cooker.

In the entry, just the usual stuff (put away things that don't belong, wipe down the doors

2.  Since I'll be in the kitchen anyway, I'll just go on and work on that inventory of the pantry.  I worked on the big deep freeze last week and got it about finished up.  Now to tackle the cabinets and the fridge freezer.

3.  It's pay week so get our bills paid or at least set up to be paid at the time they are due.

4.  Go to Sam's Club to get my membership card, pick up flour and do some shopping for other things.  I want to look over pricing on items and be sure I'm getting the best buys on what we typically get elsewhere, including Amazon Subscribe and Save.

5.  Go over my Subscribe and Save listo and be sure I actually need what's coming.  I've done this once already but there are a few items I need to check supplies of before I make a final decision.  I also want to be sure to add any items that might be low.

6.  Write a Budget Grocery post.  I've bought the groceries, planned the meals and surprised myself with how many meals I can get from what I bought.

7.  Try to plan a family day with the grandchildren.  Wonder of wonders they all have the same fall break schedule.  I know that there are already plans for some of them to spend time with other grandparents so we will see.  Nope.  Taylor comes in the day the other kids are going out to their other grandparents.  Ah well.

8.  Make Oatmeal cookies.  Katie reminded me that she's been promised Oatmeal cookies since the end of August.  I was waiting for her to have Henry so she could enjoy them and then the temperatures were icky high, so I kept pushing off doing any baking.  But it's time.

9.  Try to do three more jobs on my October goals list this week.  I'm not even particular about what they are, just try to do something more so that this month I will feel I have accomplished what I set out to do.

10.  Find a second piece to read at an Oasis supper where John and I have been asked to be the entertainment.  This was a complete surprise to me to be included.  I have one piece ready, but a second one will be necessary to fill the time we're allotted.

When I was in physical rehab hospital after the car accident the highlight of my week was an Oatmeal Raisin cookie from Dunkin' Donuts each week. At first Mama would bring them in and when I was on CR (community re-entry) training they would take us over to the donut shop then. I always got one of their oatmeal raisin cookies.

I do love Oatmeal cookies but rarely make them. I'm not sure why! I reorganized my tiny bottom drawer fridge freezer this weekend before I started feeling wiped out from the flu/covid shots. I got rid of some things I'd been holding onto and finally realized they aren't going to get used. I took out the ice bin and divider that took up room but isn't used (we don't have the icemaker hooked up) and it freed up some much needed space. I need to figure out how to get the drawers out so I can clean the bottom of the freezer as it's AWFUL since it's at floor level.

I need to go buy a card and a gift card for a friend's birthday this week, I'd like to make up some cookie dough for the freezer and figure out some meals for the rest of the week that will force me to use some stuff up. I may need to get some meat.

I'm still tired this Monday morning and hope my energy level increases. I feel like I could go back to bed for several more days. It was an emotional weekend. We had to call 911 on Friday evening due to a guy on drugs shooting a gun right outside our house. That lasted several hours of dealing with police, providing camera footage from our security system and all the rest. Then Saturday was shots and trying to keep my mind busy so I didn't dwell on the wedding I wasn't part of before my body fell apart fighting the "attack" on my immune system from vaccinations. I'm ready for some energy and some joy and some lovely weather. It's supposed to be in the low to mid 80s this week and I'm for it!

Plans for this week have turned out to be switched around, but all shall be well. Miss L was home from school yesterday, sick with her asthma and allergies. She was better by evening and since I haven't heard anything this morning, I assume she went to school. She had a field trip today, and insisted she would be well enough to go.
We had burrito bowls after the football game today and they were enjoyed by all. I put a chuck roast in the crockpot with salsa verde poured over top, and a tablespoon of homemade taco seasoning. It cooked literally 12 hours and was so good. A pot of black beans in the Instant Pot before I left for the game, cooked rice from the freezer, shredded cheese, and various condiments so everyone could customize their individual bowls. Yum.
Today will be some catch-up that didn't get done yesterday, tomorrow is early dismissal for the kids so B and I are working on that piano on the porch. It's going to be gone from the porch this week, I hope. What a project that has been. Argh.
Supper tonight will be meatloaf and mashed potatoes, then I'll have used up the meat I thawed in the frig last week.
We watch and pray for those in the path of this newest hurricane. ♥

I hope that is a one off incident for y'all in your neighborhood Karla. Oatmeal raisin are my favorite too, followed by sugar cookies. I make the oatmeal raisin in the fall and the sugar cookies at Christmas. I don't make my favorite foods just for me, either. I tend to make John's favorites or foods that the kids request.

I'll come for supper tonight...I love meatloaf and mashed potatoes! My week has not gone to plan thus far, lol. It's been lovely, but definitely not as planned. seems like it's not going to either.

My mom swears I saved her life with oatmeal cookies after she was hospitalized with COVID back in 2021. She wasn't eating anything and had no will to live (my dad died of COVID - they were hospitalized at the same time). I made her favorite Oatmeal Krispies cookies and she began eating. Here is the recipe:
