Goals for August

My goals for this month are a little different than I'd typically set.

I'm going to be on vacation for at least the first two weeks and quite possibly the whole of the month of August.  This involves doing restful things, skipping the pressure to do lots of projects and accomplish jobs that are nagging at me.  For August, I'll just say No to most things.

I'll say NO to planning and preparing elaborate meals, working on big projects, deep cleaning.

What I will say YES to: Reading, coloring, napping, sitting under the sprinkler, puttering in my little garden, going for long rides, eating simpler meals, going out for breakfast a few times, and generally just strolling casually through the whole month.

I have a stack of books to read, and while they are related to the Bootcamp challenge I set for myself, I also read these books for pleasure.  And I have loads more unrelated to Bootcamp that I will indulge in as well.

The only other thing I mean to consider doing this month is attempting to do something towards the  Every Bit Counts Challenge that ThreeRiversHomestead does each August.  I won't spend the month preserving by any means, but if I come across a good purchase, happen to be in a farmer's market at any point, I might tuck a few things away in the freezer to consider putting up in September.  We'll see how that goes.

I've come to the conclusion that there is never going to be an ideal time to go on vacation and I really need some time off.  Since my hardest task mistress is self, I can ease up on me, agreed?

Enjoy your vacation. I'm sure this time at a slower pace will refresh and renew you!

I'm so glad you are giving yourself this break! Enjoy it. And keep your commitment to yourself. :) I know how hard it can be.

I am sure John would be thrilled to have a mini vacation witb you, Time to go get ice cream, a cheap sandwich, take a walk, sit on tbe porch no other family allowed. This is what is important in life. As Gramps Parkinson's dementia progresses I am so thankful for the time we spent just walking to get a cup of coffee or just going to the library or the Audubon woods. All the meals and clean house doesn't mean a thing. I thought it did, but the time together or with family and friends are the only things that really mattered.

Dora, we've finding it very difficult to get any time alone at all. We are apparently permanently on tap for Caleb's care and even if Katie is here he's the one insistent that he be with us. I'm going to break down and plan a long weekend away in the next week because we simply must have some time alone.

This is something John and I have discussed over and over again, the desire to spend time with one another 'while we can' as he says it and he's quite right.

Great hugs to you as you go through the care of your dear husband. Give him a hug for me.

Lana, your statement struck home with me. I'm going to see what I can pull together for a three day weekend next weekend. We need it too badly NOT to take it!

Cindi M, TY!

Karla, I'm trying. It's proving to be harder than I'd thought it might be.

I'm so happy you're doing this! Sometimes when I read the expectations you set for yourself I want to encourage you to put yourself first but I never want to sound critical or like I'm overstepping. I have two teenage boys still at home (one heading off to college) and I don't think I do half of what you do! Enjoy every bit of your time off.
