What's in Season in January?

I laughed when I read the Georgia farm chart for what was in season.  Sweet and to the point we had:

Collards, Turnips and Green onions.

I'm pretty sure there's a bit more food available this month, just not necessarily grown in my state!

I was right.  So here's a more comprehensive gift of fresh foods and fruits that you can find in January.

Beets

Celery

Celery Root

Chicory

Collards

Grapefruit

Kale

Kumquat

Leeks

Lemons

Lime

Mandarins

Oranges

Parsnips

Pears

Potatoes

Rutabagas

Turnips

As you can see, it's not a long list but fresh foods may still be had as well as some that have a longer shelf life such as carrots and cabbage.

Items you might look for this month in other stores include:

Clearance items.  Oddly enough fall and winter items are being moved on so that bathing suits and spring dresses can be moved in.  You may also find a few sales on candy and Christmas items though I expect most of those will be gone before January arrives.

Fitness equipment, organization tools, and health foods.  The stores want to take advantage of your New Year's resolutions and offer up all those things you require in order to meet your first month of goals.

Small Kitchen Appliances.

'White' Sales: linens, towels, sheets and bedding.

I went into Hobby Lobby today. Their Christmas is now 90% off. I picked up a few berry picks to use in my Valentine decorating. I was surprised how much was still there. I don't think it will last long as people were buying it by the cart load! Not me, I picked up a few berry picks to use in my Valentine decorating. I was big spender, spending $1.50 for 5 picks!
