It seems at the end of every single week, I realize it's Friday and then I feel this surge of...not guilt, nor frustration. But I have this sense that the week flew by, and I have accomplished absolutely nothing. I'm going to track what I do each day this week and just prove to myself that either that feeling is true or it's false. Let's see how this goes.
Monday: Made breakfast.
After breakfast I decided to get the kitchen cleaned up. After washing dishes by hand, I decided to clean the stove top. Which led to removing the vent filter and washing it really well, then opening the oven and using an SOS sponge to clean the inside of that. My oven will never be spotless inside but considering that it's nearly 25 years old, I reckon it will be all right.
After the stove, I wiped down all the counter tops and spot checked the cabinet doors to see if they had dribbles or spots. Then I wiped off the vent hood and cleaned the sink.
Refilled my pill box for the week ahead. Then I decided that the drawer where I keep my bottles was a huge mess. I can barely find what I want to put on in the mornings just now, so I sorted that out.
I sat down with a glass of lemon water and did some genealogy research while I was resting. I only meant to just start that one person's research and then a half hour passed. Oops!
I got up and cleaned both bathrooms deeply. That took almost a full hour because I was very thorough today with that.
The rest of the afternoon went by with lunch, clearing up, working on genealogy, picking up Millie, making supper.
Tuesday: Made breakfast.
Puttered around putting things away and rearranging all of the things out of place.
Cleared up and then settled to go over the check register and bills. I realized I had a bill I need to write a check to send out. After sorting that out, I decided to go outdoors.
I blew off the porch and cleaned up the patio, this time removing the pile of debris in the center of the patio I'd left last time I worked out there. I weeded a few pots, debated how to best use my space, contemplated planting, but couldn't find my trowel anywhere. I pulled a few weeds about the patio and finally admitted it was too hot to work out there and came indoors to have water and sit before the fan.
Pulled up this coming week's grocery ad and determined what was on sale that I might need. I plan to go to Sam's tomorrow, so it was also a good means of getting prices fixed in my head, so I'll know which are better buys at Sam's and which I need to pick up in regular stores.
I made lunch, a stir fry of vegetables and mini won tons that I served with homemade egg rolls (frozen and in the freezer). Sam came in and sat and chatted while I was making the meal. After lunch I put away leftovers then loaded the dishwasher and started it running.
I went back outdoors to do a second round on the patio. So much work to be done! I planted two planters with basil and refreshed the soil in the mint bucket then planted mint seeds hoping to get a new crop.
Then I settled to do some reading. After all I have a library book and 15 more books from my shelves that I need to read!
Wednesday: Made breakfast and dinner. Picked up take out for lunch. All very simple and easy meals and did no clean up at all.
Shopped at Sam's Club. Came home tired and hungry. Ate lunch and after resting about an hour, I got up and put away groceries but did not divide up the meats.
Thursday: Made breakfast. Put four breakfast burritos on low carb tortillas in the fridge to eat over Sunday and first part of next week.
Divided up the 2-pound roll of sausage. Got 17 slices. Put 8 in the oven along with 8 canned biscuits to make more breakfast items ahead and put rest in the freezer to flash freeze.
Wandered about the house and did general picking up and straightening. Bathroom, master bedroom, living room, dining room, guest bedroom.
Blew off the back porch and generally neatened up that whole space, organized the stuff that was out there. I'll lay odds half the back yard sand was on the back porch when I shook out the two rugs that Rufus likes to lie upon.
Came indoors and cleared two kitchen counters, then decided that it was too hot so stopped for lemon water and a cool down.
Divided up all the bread products I bought yesterday and put them in the freezer. I like to have the bread and tortillas divided into 2-4 pieces so I can easily take out just what is needed for the meal I might be preparing. I don't eat store bought bread every day. Mostly we eat homemade but every now and then our loaf is old, or I haven't had time to bake and we will use store bought.
After lunch, I took time to cut and make vacuum seal bags for freezing the meat I bought yesterday. I sealed the sausage into 4-piece packets. Then I put up 14 bags of chicken breast, 2 bags of wings and 2 portions of beef roast in vacuum bags. I had to rearrange the chicken basket from the freezer so that the new meats would go on the bottom and the older meats would be used first. I'm trying to be far better about rotating foods.
Then I finished clearing/cleaning the kitchen and started supper even though it was early. It just made sense to go ahead and cook since I was in the room cleaning anyway.\
Friday: House blessing day. I stripped the bed and bathroom early this morning. Folded clothes John washed and hung to dry yesterday.
Sam stopped by and I reheated breakfast foods made yesterday. We all sat about and talked for a bit too long. Then I got up and finished my house blessing.
In the kitchen today, I have started supper in the crockpot, made bread, pizza dough and took time to chop two wrinkly apples to make into a sugar-free almond flour muffin. While the muffins were baking, I popped food into the oven to heat for our lunch.
Once this bread comes from the oven which is any second now, I will tend to the dishes in the sink. And then I am calling myself done. I have meals planned for the weekend and week ahead. I feel I can relax a little, but I've very mindful of what didn't get done this week: mulching, clearing pots and flower beds I'd promised myself I'd tend to, more seed planting, getting the siding and railings clean on the porches, painting porch furniture...And that's just the outdoor stuff!
