Today was all about Pre-K'ers in our family. Bella and Caleb had awards/certificate day at their school and Millie class had their annual Picnic with Parents Day.
Katie has sent me a load of photos of the children. I haven't seen anything from Sam yet. But it looked like a fun day for the 'middles' as Katie calls them, since they are between Taylor the biggle and Henry the little.
We got up super early this morning, well before sunrise and got ready to follow Sam over to Columbus. We haven't been in that direction in ages. In fact, I think the last time we went to Columbus was when John was still working and we went to a Regional EMS dinner. That was the night GPS insisted we needed to drive northwest (no street names or highway numbers just northwest) and in further reading the directions said, 'when you get to Louisiana...' It was pitch black dark where we were and we didn't need to drive Louisiana! Anyway, we've not been back since then.
It's funny. In our area people tend to focus in one general direction and there's a whole group of each. There are those who think the only place worth going for shopping is Macon. Or Warner Robins which is where we tend to settle in and have for the past 30 years... There are a few people who insist that it's Albany one needs to go to for restaurants and shopping and such. And then there are those who say Columbus is the place to go. And you cannot convince any of us that another spot is better than the place we've chosen to go do our spending.
However, I am a little familiar with Columbus. That was where I had to take Amie as a toddler when she fell off our front porch and injured her neck. We went for weeks of doctor visits there. It's where John went to Paramedic school and training and we attended Regional EMS annual dinners. It's where Sam went for his weekly recruiter visits when he was in his senior year and had enlisted in the Navy. And where we went to see Bryan graduate from infantry school.
John had his usual anxiety about wandering into less familiar ground but fortunately the Google app was working wonderfully well this morning and led us right to where we needed to be. It's getting around in Columbus that is the issue. It is not laid out on a grid, and it's crisscrossed with major highways and interstates that lead everywhere but where you'd think. The ride to Columbus is pretty straightforward. You leave our town and head west and stay on that same road for the next 60 miles. Easy peasy.
When we left home, I had a slight headache. By the time we returned home, I had a solid headache, and I spent the rest of the morning and early afternoon being very gentle with myself. I drank Lemon water with sea salt and eventually took some pain reliever and finally took a nap. Between all that gentle care I have overcome the headache. I feel tired and have a complete lack of ambition, but I do not have a headache any longer. I'm putting it down to the fact that our week and schedules have been so disrupted. Not stressful or particularly difficult but most definitely out of routine.
The weekend is ahead. We will be busy all weekend long with brief spells at home, again more disrupted routines. But we'll get through it and on Monday I have great hopes of just spending all day long right here at home. At the moment I'm not even making plans for next week. Not for grocery shopping nor visiting anyone. I have easy-ish meals planned for the times we'll be home over the weekend. I have a stack of reading from the library.
It's been a nice week. It really has. At least two of the fig tree cuttings have put out leaves. The New Dawn rose continues to bloom, which is amazing, as it's a much longer blooming period than it's given me in years. The gardenia bush exploded in fragrant blossoms. We've had rain and sun in plenty. And we've enjoyed the week we were given. Not much more than you can ask of life than that.
