May 29: Rainy, Rainy Day

First, I want to thank all of you who did comment.  Please understand that I do not expect you all to comment constantly, but I was curious if the content here was still relevant.  I do realize that blogging in general is not the chosen forum anymore.  Even longtime very popular YouTube vloggers are saying their own numbers are down.  Katie and I were discussing this on Sunday of last week and she mentioned that her generation were more interested in short reels, from Tiktok.  They wanted quick shots of information she said.  And that made me wonder if the day of blogging was done entirely or just dwindling.  It's good to know that you all do enjoy what you're getting here.  So, thank you again for all of the input.  It was helpful.  And yeah, reassuring, lol.

We were awakened last night by a fierce thunderstorm about 2am.  Then John got out of bed about 4:45. I know because he woke me when he left the room and I looked at my phone to see the time.  I was wide awake at that point and very nearly got up myself, but then I recalled that I had Millie and Josh this afternoon and I figured by afternoon I'd be half dead.  So, I rolled over and got comfortable and slept soundly until 9.  It was raining still when I got up and it rained all morning and into the afternoon.

The sun came out about 6pm and shone like it had never meant to rain at all and by 7pm it was sullen and grey and sprinkling rain again.  So dreary!  Millie was half wild with being indoors.  She snacked and snacked and snacked all the afternoon long.  Not on sweets.  She had very little of that.  No, she had raisins and popcorn and watermelon.   By 5pm she was 'flying' and 'twirling' and heaven knows what else.  Josh is at that stage of life where he is fully Tween and doesn't really 'play'.   He prefers to sit with the adults.  I've noted that Taylor does the same these days.

Since the kids were coming around about lunchtime today, I took some ground beef out this morning.  I've been longing for tacos, and I knew the kids would eat them.  I was quite right and even more glad I'd made them when they called and delayed Isaac's appointment.  Sam never wants anything to eat but I've noted that if I have muffins or something on the counter, he somehow manages to sample 3 or 4, lol.  Some things never change with boys, even if they are pushing 40.

I have spent far too many hours this week running down rabbit trails.  I am weary of rabbit trails.  My push is to finish this particular family notebook.  I'm nearing the end of it.  And then I think I'm going to lay it down for a while.

It's late.  I'm going to end here.  Tomorrow is house blessing day, rain or shine.  And a necessary errand.  Even if we are out in the rain, at least we'll be out.

Hi Terri, yes quite a few bloggers are giving it away, which I find rather sad as I feel like I am losing a friend, even though we have never met. I used to devour books, but I seem to read more blogs lately. I have so many unread books on my shelves as I get so many at Christmas and my sister passes on the books she has read. Lately I only seem to read a book in the middle of the night when insomnia hits, which unfortunately seems to be becoming a regular occurrence. Winter commences hear tomorrow (1st June) so I am happy as the older I get, the more I hate the heat. Enjoy your weekend Terri. Cheers from Liz in Oz.

I would miss you terribly and so would many others! I am 73 and find that yes things change and I try to go with ot as much as possible but it is very nice that at least this one thing can remain for us seniors.Thank you for making it so.

Liz, I had to retrain myself to read once more. I used to read voraciously. Put down one, pick up three that sort of thing but then I went through a stage where my attention had been so shortened by watching short videos and not movies, etc. So, I made myself just sit down and start reading and I began by reading one chapter and in an hour or so I'd read another and then I'd read two, etc. Now I read every day, though I don't always devour a book. Other times, I do. Right now, I've got about three or four I read from each day.

I was thinking this morning of the blogs I read. I tend to lean hard on Annabel's Bluebirds Down on the Farm, and My Tireless Retirement (formerly something to do with Boise). She's a long time blogger. G-Donna, Dee's Life with Dee, Amanda's "A Housewife Writes" (She's much younger than us),

Oh, I love your chatty blogs! I definitely am not of the generation that likes the short hit -and I have to say, I think that very thing is shortening our attention span in a bad way. I really look forward to your posts - I love a glimpse into your daily life!

I read a lot of the same blogs you do. I don’t read a lot of blogs, but I do have my favorites that I check in regularly. I’m not into TikTok but I do like longer YouTube videos and I like some of the short Instagram reels. As several above said, as a reader, I also prefer reading blogs. I’m glad you’re still here.
