Saturday Kroger Shop

It wasn't meant to be a proper grocery shop on Saturday.  I had only one item from the sales on my list: half gallons of Kroger milk at $1.39 each.  A gallon runs $2.78/gallon (checked the price while I was shopping), but half gallons tend to run a bit more as anyone who prefers the half gallon jugs knows.  Generally, we can finish off a half gallon before it starts to go 'off' though with me making a Dalgona coffee most afternoons (I use 8 ounces of milk), I am using it more quickly.

However, I had a decent sized list of other needs.  I looked over my clipped and Best Customer coupons to determine what items I should go ahead and pick up today.   I'm just going to run down my receipt and tell you what each item cost as I go.

The prices below are what the item actually cost.  Any coupons came off that price unless I denote otherwise.

Milk, five half gallons, $1.39 each.  I put all five in the freezer.  The jugs just fit on the door shelf which means I don't have frozen milk jugs threatening to crash to the floor.

Eggs 18 ct. $5.49.  I'm mad over this one.  A dozen eggs were $3.49.  I debated buying two dozen, but I was sure I was getting a better buy on the 18 ct.  Nope.  I paid 32c per egg.  The cost per unit was cheaper on the dozen eggs.

4 count croissants ($4.99) FREE* with best customer coupon

4 count probiotic yogurt pack (($3.69) FREE* BC coupon

32 ounces non-fat Greek god's plain yogurt $4.79

32 ounces frozen green peas $2.99

16 ounces Breakstone sour cream $2.99 *had a 99c store coupon

1.24 pounds broccoli crown $2.47* had a 49c BC coupon

Nathan Beef Franks $11.74 * had a $1.25 coupon and a $1 coupon they stacked.  This was the big not quite 2-pound package.

1 pound Portabella Mushrooms $3.24 (a marked down item)

Home chef 5-piece breast pieces $3.60 (marked down item).

Asparagus $1.67 (on sale for 1.99/pound)

BoarsHead 8 ct. Skinless Beef Frank $6.99 (bought simply because John feels bougie when I buy these now and then.  I'll divide them into two meals and will freeze and save for a special occasion)

Home Chef Boneless BBQ wings $5.15 (a marked down item.  We had half for lunch, and I put half in the freezer for another lunch).

1 Zucchini 82c

1 English cucumber $1.50

5 pounds red potatoes $5.99

10 cans Van Camp pork n beans $12.90.  Sale priced at $10/10, a savings of $2.90.

about a 9x9 pan of brownies $3.40 (a bakery mark down)

Those were the groceries I bought.  I also got four other items:

1 diet Sprite $2.69 with a 69c coupon

1 regular Sprite $2.69 with a 69c coupon

1 package of M&M peanut candy $1.99 (for John to eat on the way home.  He asked me specifically to get him something to eat on the way)

1 hot wheel car (Caleb's constant addition to our Gramma's Fried Chicken menu for tomorrow) $1.25

Tax $2.89

Total $85.92

Store and coupon savings $21.28

I may pick up more groceries next week.  I'm not planning a grocery shopping day just yet.  I will see what goes on sale.  One store starts sales on Monday and the other four start on Wednesday.  I can usually preview all four ads before Wednesday.

My main goal today was to get enough of necessary stuff to see us through another week or so, just in case I choose not to go.

We have produce (not just what I bought today) and cheese on hand from previous shopping trips/sales and I still have an ample freezer stock as well as pantry stock so I can't really foresee us needing anything.  If I don't actually have something in my pantry, I likely have a decent substitute or similar enough item I can use until I do a proper grocery shop.
