Summer Weekend

We had a very quiet and restful weekend...well we had a very quiet and restful Saturday.    We didn't do much of anything at all.  John did bribe me with a Diet Dr. Pepper to ride into town with him.  He wanted to get gas for his mower.  That was just about the sole thing we did all day long.

I made simple meals out of what we had on hand.  I read blogs.   And in the afternoon, I had a long conversation with Josie.  She's getting interested in family history and wants to build records for her children's benefit so they can know family by sight if not in fact.  But she also wants to get some of my genealogy notes and such.  I told her I'll send her what I can. Her request is incentive to get a family tree up online so that she can tap into that.

I was sitting here last night and my leg suddenly stopped itching.  I didn't scratch it but looked at the itchy spot and I saw the sure sign of a poison ivy line.  It started out looking like a faint scratch but as the evening went on, it began to turn into the telltale blistered line.  Fortunately, I have plenty of stuff to treat it.  It does make me a little mad because I made sure to scrub three times about my ankles in an effort to make sure I cleansed my skin of the bacteria.  It took nearly 36 hours after exposure to show up, too.  Ugh.

John woke me about 6:30 this morning shutting the closest door.  He said he'd been up all night long, but I guess he just slept very poorly because he was in bed all night until at least 6:30.  I slept fine last night.  He certainly didn't disturb me at any point!

We got ready for church and headed out.  Our mornings on Sunday are leisurely, too, now that we go to the late service.  We arrived in plenty of time to speak to a few folks before service began.   Our pastor gave a terrific sermon.  After service, we headed over to Katie's.

Cody's dad moved out this weekend so the house was in a state according to Cody.  And perhaps it was but when Not the Mama moved out, the kids all shifted to immediately fill up the newly emptied space.  Now Katie and Cody will have the master bedroom and bath, the two boys will be in Cody and Katie's old room and the two girls will share the bedroom previously shared by the three children.  The girls are usually only there on weekends, so they will have the smaller of the two bedrooms.  The boy will get the larger one.

Katie got her old washer and dryer out of storage and Gary took the stacking set to his new place.  So even the laundry room was in a state of upheaval.

The little children were excited to see us.   Caleb came outdoors to shout at us from the porch, "I'm meeting my new teacher tomorrow!"   Bella was bouncing inside looking at us through the storm glass doors.  Henry apparently jumped into Grampa's arms and was already rolling around on him, until he caught sight of me. He immediately started jumping in my direction, grinning from ear to ear.  He rolled around on me for the longest time.

We only went by for a brief visit and I'm sincere about that.  We didn't any of us know that Gary was moving house this weekend.  John had asked Katie if she would cut his hair today and she'd said she would.

I fed the baby lunch while Katie fed the other two children.  Then I took up a cookbook, sat down in a chair and thought I'd just look through it.  Pretty soon, Caleb was sitting on my lap looking at the pages with me and then a little bit later, Bella crawled up in my lap and started looking at it with me.  I had to read off the ingredients to them both.  I kept it to the most obvious things.   I didn't read seasonings out loud, but I did read the main ingredients list, things they could see were on the plate already.  Oddly enough they both absolutely loved that bit of time.   I've tried to get both of them to sit down with me and let me read them a story book, but they have no desire to do that.  Apparently however, taking up a cookbook is a good way to share with them!   Perhaps it was said best by Bella.  "I like food.  I like to eat!"

After John got his haircut, we loaded up the toilet tissue Katie had shared with us (I was on my way to buy some and she had three packs), gave the two older kids $1 each for ice creams on Friday afternoon at school, kissed them all and hugged the weepy ones who were sad we were leaving.

We went to pick up the missionary mail and I went into Publix.  Sam was here on Friday, and he drank about three or four cups of coffee.  That's not an issue.  However, I had about half a quart of Half & Half before he got here...I barely had enough for a cup of coffee on Saturday morning!   So, I needed to refresh my supply of cream for coffee.  I picked up some fruit and chips and bagels.  The Manor House kids will be here for three days, and I'll need breakfasts and lunches for them.  I realized I hadn't nearly enough fruit for them.  And I thought bagels and fruit would make a lovely light lunch one of those days.

Tomorrow morning, I am taking the three to the doctor for their school year check-ups. I want to take the school calendar along with me so that I can set their next appointments for a time when Sam will be off.

We came home and I made a late lunch/early supper for us.  I quickly did some light housework.  I had planned to do a good bit more, but you know what?  It's been a busy full day.  Housework always waits on me.  Doesn't yours wait on you, too?

It sounds like a lovely summer weekend! Glad your Saturday was restful.
I don't know what genealogy platform you use but wanted to share that anyone can set up a free familysearch.org account that can then be shared with family members. Family Search gives you the ability to store photos, stories and memories of loved ones and also has many research resources.

What a nice weekend! I surely hope you get over your poison oak/ivy quickly! Love hearing about Josie's interest in the genealogy. Always fun to share with someone else who loves that stuff.
