The Gift of His Presence
When Adam and Eve were created, God gave them Eden as their home. He came daily to walk with them in the cool of the evening.
After Adam and Eve were sent out of the garden, God continued to speak to them.
But when Cain killed Abel, he was banished from God's presence. He was cursed to live a nomadic existence, to wander the earth alone. In this instance, that aloneness came not in separation from other men, but separation from God.
He did not banish all men from his presence. Enoch was said to have walked with God. And of Noah it was said, "He walked in close fellowship with God."
In Exodus 33:14, God told Moses, "...My presence shall go with you..."
Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble.
God's presence asserts itself in feelings of comfort, protection and strength. Collectively we might call it peace.
Isaiah 7:14 All right then, the Lord himself will give you a sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means God is with us').
John 1:5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.
John 8:12 Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, "I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life."
God is with us!
